Before Stephen B. Selden can speak intelligently with you about the aspects of financial security planning that might be right for you and your family, he needs to get to know you. And, before you can feel comfortable sharing your goals and dreams, you need to get to know him.

Stephen began his career with Northwestern Mutual in Petoskey, MI in 1977 as a life and disability insurance specialist with a focus on helping people achieve long term financial security.  He received his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designation in 1982 and earned his Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designation in 2000.

Stephen's father was a senior investment officer with another large financial services company, so it was only natural that Stephen would also develop an interest in investments and insurance. Stephen participated in an innovative Future Studies program while at the University of Minnesota Graduate School which sparked a lifelong interest in long-term planning.

Valuing a team effort in helping clients plan for financial security, Stephen has established working relationships with fellow advisors and specialists around the country. He has been a member of the Estate Planning Council of Northern Michigan since its founding, and interacts regularly with his clients' legal and tax advisors.

  • Stephen has been a qualifying member of Million Dollar Round Table for over 35 years(Qualifying/Life member 1979-2014). MDRT is a coveted career milestone that indicates sales and service achievement and is a highly recognized mark of excellence for life underwriters.  Members must meet strict ethical and production requirements to qualify.
